The Brooke Foundation Donated Over 1,000 Books to RORSD
Golden Book Award Winner
In the last edition
of Storytime we informed you that
The Brooke Foundation donated over 500 books to
several ROR clinics in San Diego. These sites
actually received over 1,000 books from The Brooke
Foundation! For their generous contribution they win
the Golden Book Award this month. Thank you
for the unexpected surplus!

Sites Receive their 1st Shipment of RIF Books from RORSD Collaborative
Beautiful and Colorful Books from Byeway Book, Inc.
All sites participating in our Reading is Fundamental
Partnership should have received their first book
shipment from Byeway Books. Thanks to RIF and the
First 5 Commission of San Diegos sites are receiving
enough books for all children, participating in this
program, ages 6 mos to 2 years! Please note that not
all
books were in stock and therefore some sites were
missing a few books from this shipment. The next
shipment of books will arrive earlier than scheduled
so you won't run out of choices. At the time of the next
shipment each site will receive an email stating how
many books they actually received from Byeway as
well as how many books will be coming with the next
shipment. Sorry for the confusion.

RORSD Visits Washington DC
Members of the RORSD Collaborative traveled to
Washington DC in February to discuss Reach Out and
Read with our legislators.
Both Senators Diane Feinstein and Barbara Boxer
have signed on to
the "Dear Appropriators Letter" to show their support
of Reach Out and Read.

National ROR Book Distribution System
RIF Sites Should NOT Participate!
National ROR is offering a new book ordering
system. However, this system will give sites an array
of books for children 6 mos to 5 years. RORSD sites,
who are participating in RIF, are already receiving
enough books for children aged 6 mos to 2 years.
Therefore this system should not be used. Instead
use sustainability money to order books for children 3
to 5 years old. The book distribution system offered by
the ROR National Center may be an option in the
future when a choice of age ranges becomes
available.

RECYCLING FOR ROR
Putting out a recycle bin can earn you extra book
money! You can display your bin at your site, at a
friend's office, or ask a local business to display in
order to help Reach Out and Read. Visit www.bottles
andcans.com and click on Starter Kit to
order a free recycle bin. On the home page you can
also click on Where to Recycle to locate your
nearest recycle center. Click here for a
ROR Recycle sign to display on your bin.

Need a Tax Deductible Donation?
The AAP-CA3, a non-profit 501(c)3 is able to accept
book money for sites and provide a tax deductible
receipt. Sites that do not have this non-profit
status can have donors send a check to the AAP-
CA3 indicating that this money should be set aside
for a particular site. After purchasing books sites
can send us an invoice which we will deduct from
their account. Or sites can participate in bulk book
buying with the collaborative and use the money in
their account. There is no charge to sites for this
service.
