| Need a Tax Deductible Donation? |
|
The AAP-CA3, a non-profit 501(c)3 is able to accept book money for sites and provide a tax deductible receipt. Sites that do not have this non-profit status can have donors send a check to the AAP- CA3 indicating that this money should be set aside for a particular site. After purchasing books sites can send us an invoice which we will deduct from their account. Or sites can participate in bulk book buying with the collaborative and use the money in their account. There is no charge to sites for this service.

| The American Academy of Pediatrics, CA Chapter 3 (AAP-CA3), under the leadership of Chapter President Donald Miller, Executive Director Meredith Kennedy, Associate Director Tara Milbrand, and ROR Champions within the Chapter, is the organizing agency for a coordinated Reach Out and Read effort in San Diego County. 6 Month Progress Reports Due April 3rd
6 month ROR progress reports are due April 3rd with
July through December 2008 data. As you recall, due
to a decrease in Federal Funding, National ROR has
changed their site sustainability operating
procedures. Eligible sites that submits their progress
report on time will receive book shipments from
Scholastic- 25% of the books needed to operate ROR.
Sites will no longer receive funds deposited in their
Scholastic account.
National ROR has sent out an email to each site
regarding progress reports. Progress reports can be
accessed at www.myror.org. Past
progress reports
can also be accessed on this site and can be referred
to when completing the current progress report.
Book donations provided by RORSD have been
entered on the progress report under #6 Fundraising-
Dollars awarded by your coalition. These include RIF
shipments and any books taken at collaborative
meetings, etc. To determine the number of books
divide the value by 2.75. If you have any questions or
need assistance contact Tara Milbrand at tmilbrand@san.r

Let's Read Together, A Program of "Off to a Good Start"
A Free Program for Parents
The University of California Cooperative Extension
administers a First 5 of San Diego funded program
entitled 'Off to a Good Start'. 'Off to a Good Start' is a
free, multi-faceted program which assists parents and
caregivers of children 0-5 years in interacting and
guiding their child's development.
One of the curriculums used is "Let's Read
Together". This curriculum is organized around a
featured book specifically selected for its intended age
group: Infants; Toddlers; or Preschoolers. Through
hands-on, interactive activities parents learn how to
engage their children in positive, age appropriate
ways that promote the development of early literacy
skills. Parents get to take home a copy of the featured
book and the workshops can be presented in English
or Spanish.
The "Let's Read Together" curriculum is based on
current brain research, has been peer-reviewed and
is an approved curriculum for the National Even Start
Association. If you would be interested in
providing workshops at your location, please contact
Lori Renstrom at (858)514-4976 for more
information.
